Jane Asinde’s Star Keeps Shining, Hits 1000 Career Points at UTEP Miners

Uganda Gazelles star Jane Asinde made history as she surpassed 1000 points in her D1 career at UTEP Miners in a game where she recorded her 10th double-double. She maintains an average of 16.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.8 steals, 0.5 blocks, and 1.7 assists.

At the age of 19, Jane Asinde relocated to the United States, where she played for Grayson College for two years. During her tenure at Grayson College, she was recognized as the 18th-ranked player in the World Exposure Report Juco rankings.

Following an impressive sophomore season, she received First Team All-American honors from the WBCA NCJAA. With remarkable averages of nearly 19 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, she showcased her talent on the court with several standout performances.

She later transferred to Wichita State, where she continued to excel, outshining her teammates. Over a two-year career at Wichita State, she averaged 27.8 minutes per game, 13.1 points per game, and 9.8 rebounds in 60 games, starting 53.

Jane Asinde played a pivotal role in the Gazelles’ success in the 2023 Afrobasket women’s tournament, where the Ugandan women’s basketball team achieved their highest finish, placing 7th overall. However, her performance at the games was cut short after she sustained an ankle injury during Uganda’s match against Rwanda, where Uganda lost to the host.
