Former Cranes Coach Micho Exits Algerian Club ES Setif After Brief Spell

Former Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin Sredojevic has parted ways with Algerian Ligue 1 side Entente Sportive Setifienne after only three months in charge, bringing an early end to a contract that had been set to run until June 2027.

The Algerian club confirmed the separation on February 15, 2026 describing it as amicable. Micho had joined on November 18, 2025, as the club’s third coach of a difficult campaign, tasked with steering the Black Eagles away from relegation danger.

He arrived with the team sitting 12th on the table, two points above the drop zone, but struggled to deliver consistent improvement.

Across 12 matches in all competitions, ES Setif registered 4 wins, 3 draws, and 5 defeats. In the league alone, the record stood at 2 wins, 3 draws, and 4 losses in 9 matches, leaving the club in the lower half of the standings with 16 points from 15 games.

Despite the inconsistent run, Micho guided the team to the Algerian Cup round of 16, highlighted by a commanding 4-0 victory over Bechar Djedid.

He also secured a notable 1-0 league win against JS Kabylie in December, but went on winless stretch in January, leading to his departure.

His exit adds to a pattern of short managerial stints in recent years. Before joining ES Setif, Micho spent four months at Al-Merrikh in Sudan, having earlier managed the Libya national team until September 2024.

His second spell with the Uganda national team ended in September 2023 after the team failed to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Micho’s strongest connection remains with Uganda, where he built a lasting legacy. He first made his mark at SC Villa, winning three league titles, the Uganda Cup, and the CECAFA Clubs Cup.

He later achieved historic success with the Uganda Cranes by ending the country’s 39-year wait for AFCON qualification when he guided them to the 2017 tournament in Gabon.

Under his leadership, Uganda also reached their highest FIFA ranking of 62nd and won the 2015 CECAFA Cup.

His wider African résumé includes spells with Orlando Pirates, where he reached the CAF Champions League semi-finals, and Egyptian giants Zamalek, where he won the Egypt Cup.

He also secured domestic titles with Al-Hilal, Young Africans, and St. George.
