Fadilah Shamika was named the overall Star of February at the FORTEBET Real Stars Monthly Awards after a standout month on the continental stage.
The February edition recognized top performers in football, chess and badminton, honoring athletes who excelled in their respective disciplines during the month.
Shamika edged fellow nominees Tracy Naluwooza and Arafat Tendo Kibirige after clinching a gold medal for Uganda at the Africa Championship in Botswana. She also teamed up with Naluwooza to secure a team bronze medal in a highly competitive tournament, capping off a memorable campaign.
In football, NEC FC forward Richard Basangwa was crowned Player of the Month following a strong run of performances. He scored a brace as NEC FC defeated KCCA FC 3 to 1, then delivered another key display away to Vipers SC to help NEC secure a valuable draw at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
In chess, Wasswa Nyola emerged as the February star in his discipline after winning the national championship in an 11 round robin contest. Nyola registered victories over FIDE Masters Harold Wanyama and Bob Bibasa, and also overcame Sanaa Omprakash and Olivia Asiimwe to seal the title.
The monthly awards continue to spotlight athletes who raise Uganda’s profile through outstanding performances both locally and internationally.
