Former Cranes Captain Batabaire Honored for Contribution to South African Football

Former Uganda Cranes Captain, Timothy Batabaire, has been honoured for his significant contributions to football in South Africa, particularly in fighting discrimination.

Batabaire was recognized for his involvement in the Premier’s Social Cohesion Games, a groundbreaking initiative spearheaded by the Premier of Gauteng, David Makhura.

The Premier’s Social Cohesion Games bring together diverse communities within Gauteng through sports. Part of the activities around the initiatives include an annual 7-a-side football tournament tailored for players aged over 35.

The event aims to fight any ethnic, religious or gender-based discrimination.

Batabaire, renowned for his illustrious career with SC Villa in Uganda, relocated to South Africa in 2004, where he played for Bloemfontein Celtic, Bidvest Wits, Vasco da Gama, and Garankuwa United. He represented the Uganda Cranes from 2000 to 2008 and served as Vice Captain, deputising when Ibrahim Sekagya wasn’t around.
