Uganda’s leading Under-13 table tennis players, Patience Anyango and Joseph Sebatindira, have begun their quest for international success at the WTT Youth Contender Helsingborg 2026 in Sweden.
The tournament, running from June 4 to 7 at the Helsingborg Arena, brings together some of the most talented young players from around the world and offers the Ugandan pair an opportunity to test themselves against elite international competition.
Anyango will compete in both the U13 Girls’ Singles and U15 Girls’ Singles categories. She has been drawn in Group 2 of the U13 event and Group 3 of the U15 competition.
Sebatindira will also take part in two age categories, featuring in Group 1 of the U13 Boys’ Singles and Group 5 of the U15 Boys’ Singles.
The two youngsters were scheduled to open their campaign on Thursday in the U15 Mixed Doubles event. They were set to face Swedish duo Alicia Enbom and Erik Kogerfelt in the Round of 32, with the match due to be played at 10 a.m. on Table 1.
Their participation marks another significant milestone for Uganda’s growing table tennis programme, which has increasingly focused on exposing young athletes to high-level international competition.
The progress made by Anyango and Sebatindira has been attributed to the development pathways provided by clubs such as Nakasero Table Tennis Club, where structured training, mentorship and regular competition have helped nurture emerging talent.
Their appearance at one of the World Table Tennis youth circuit events also highlights the increasing visibility of Ugandan players on the global stage and underlines the potential of the country’s next generation of table tennis stars.
The Uganda table tennis community has rallied behind the pair as they seek to make their mark in Sweden while proudly representing the national colours and inspiring young athletes back home.
