The 2026 Stanbic Matchplay Challenge has reached its decisive phase after an intense quarter-final round at Entebbe Golf Club, with only four teams remaining in the hunt for the prestigious title.
A total of 149 golfers competed across the main and subsidiary categories during the event held on June 6, underlining the growing depth and competitiveness of Ugandan golf. Players battled through a busy day of Stableford action and matchplay contests, with attention firmly focused on securing places in the semi-finals scheduled for July 11.
Tony Kisadha and Richard Mwami booked their place in the last four after overcoming Herbert Kamuntu and Stephen Otimabo in one of the key quarter-final encounters. They will now face Brian Manyindo and Mark Musinguzi, who recorded the second-best matchplay result of the round with a commanding 4&3 victory.
The standout performance of the quarter-finals came from Ronald Pulle and Michael Monne, whose emphatic 5&4 win earned them the best matchplay score of the day. Their reward is a semi-final showdown against Vincent Katutsi and Sam Kacungira as they continue their pursuit of the championship crown.
Away from the matchplay battles, golfers also competed for honours in various individual categories. Alber Otete claimed the Piga Mingi award with 19 points, while Anne Abeja and Bannet Akampa won the nearest-to-the-pin prizes in the ladies’ and men’s divisions respectively. Peace Kabasweka secured the ladies’ longest drive award, while Serwano Walusimbi topped the men’s category.
In the ladies’ competition, Ruth Akello emerged as Group A winner with 38 points, finishing ahead of Anne Abeja on 37 points. Maxi Byenkya claimed Group B honours on countback after posting 36 points, with Patience Natukunda finishing runner-up on the same score.
The men’s divisions also produced strong performances. Ali Juuko won Group A with 37 points ahead of Peter Magona, while Samson Agamile edged Peter Wakholi on countback after both golfers returned 39 points in Group B. Arnold Katwesigye delivered one of the day’s best rounds with 40 points to win Group C, finishing ahead of Adrian Bukenya on 39 points.
With the field now reduced to four teams, anticipation is building ahead of next month’s semi-finals, where Ronald Pulle and Michael Monne will face Vincent Katutsi and Sam Kacungira, while Tony Kisadha and Richard Mwami take on Brian Manyindo and Mark Musinguzi for a place in the final. The winners will move one step closer to lifting the 2026 Stanbic Matchplay Challenge title.
