Germany beat World Cup co-hosts the United States 2-1 in Chicago on Saturday, with Kai Havertz and Leroy Sane striking decisive goals in the last tune-up before the tournament.
Havertz headed in Joshua Kimmich’s free kick inside two minutes, before Antonee Robinson’s thunderbolt leveled for the US in the 37th. Sane restored Germany’s lead early in the second half, finishing a slick move from Havertz’s assist.
Christian Pulisic and Sergino Dest led a spirited US fightback, but Oliver Baumann’s saves kept Germany ahead. Tyler Adams praised his side’s resilience despite defeat.
The US open against Paraguay in Los Angeles on Friday, while Germany face debutants Curacao on Sunday.
