The government of Tanzania has moved to reassure visitors that immigration services will run smoothly during the Africa Cup of Nations 2027, which will be jointly hosted with Kenya and Uganda. This is according to a report by Tanzanian outlet Daily News.
Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Ayoub Mohammed Mahmoud told the National Assembly that special arrangements are being developed across airports, seaports and border posts to manage the expected surge in arrivals. He said the goal is to make sure players, officials, fans and tourists experience fast and efficient entry from the moment they land in the country.
He added that the ministry is pushing to modernise immigration systems to meet international standards while also coping with higher passenger volumes during the tournament period. Authorities say the upgrades are aimed at reducing delays and improving overall border management.
One of the key tools being introduced is the Advanced Passenger Information System, which will allow immigration officials to receive traveller details before arrival. Officials believe this will help speed up processing, ease congestion at entry points and strengthen security checks as the country prepares for the continental competition.
The ministry is also working closely with the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports to align preparations for receiving international guests. The coordination is part of a wider national effort to ensure Tanzania presents a smooth and organised hosting experience.
The 2027 edition of AFCON will be historic as it becomes the first time East Africa hosts the tournament, with Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda sharing hosting duties. The event is expected to draw large crowds from across the continent and beyond, boosting tourism and economic activity across the region.
