The Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) has unveiled the fixtures for the tenth edition of the Kwibuka Memorial Women’s T20 tournament, set to take place from May 30 to June 8, 2024.
The matches will be hosted at the Gahanga International Cricket Stadium and the Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centre ground in Kigali.
The Kwibuka Memorial tournament, first held in 2014, commemorates the victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
This year’s tournament will feature a single round-robin group stage format, where all participating teams play each other. The top two teams in the points table will advance to the final, with additional play-off matches determining other positions.
Kenya Women have historically dominated the tournament, securing four titles. Uganda and Tanzania have each won twice, while Rwanda, the defending champions, have claimed one title.
The Victoria Pearls of Uganda will open their campaign against Botswana on May 30. Their subsequent fixtures are against Nigeria on May 31, Zimbabwe on June 1, and after a rest day on June 2, they will face Malawi on June 3.
The Ugandan team will then compete against Kenya on June 4, and hosts Rwanda on June 5, before another rest day on June 6.
Uganda’s final group stage match is scheduled against Cameroon on June 7. The playoffs and the final match will take place on June 8.
This year’s tournament promises to be a competitive and memorable event, honoring the spirit of remembrance and sportsmanship.
