Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai clinched victory in the women’s 3,000-metre final at the World Athletics Diamond League meet in Eugene, Oregon, setting a new national record with a time of 8:55.09.
This performance surpassed her previous national record of 9:01.45, which earned her an Olympic gold medal and marked her as Uganda’s first female Olympic gold medalist.
Chemutai’s victory at the Diamond League is a significant step in her preparations for the Paris Olympics in July.
In a closely contested race, Chemutai edged out Kenya’s Beatrice Chepkoech, who finished second with a time of 8:56.51.
