HOCKEY

Hockey - Commonwealth Games: Day 5

Australia remained perfect in Pool B as a 1-0 win over New Zealand made it three wins from three.

The Australians have yet to concede a goal in the tournament and a penalty strike goal from Kaitlin Nobbs in the first quarter was enough to secure victory.

South Africa picked up their first win, a 15-0 thrashing of Kenya.

England also boast a perfect record in Pool A as Hannah Martin, Tess Howard and Giselle Ansley struck to secure a 3-1 win over India.

Grace Delmotte and captain Sara McManus each scored twice as Canada eased to an 8-1 victory over Ghana.

Chloe Walton, Madison Thompson, Madeline Secco and Brienne Stairs were also on target, while Mavis Berko hit Ghana’s goal in the final quarter.

SQUASH

Squash - Commonwealth Games: Day 5

New Zealand’s defending women’s singles champion Joelle King suffered a shock 3-1 semi-final defeat to Canada’s Hollie Naughton as England’s Sarah-Jane Perry, silver medallist four years ago, was beaten by compatriot Georgina Kennedy who takes her place in the final.

Wales’ Joel Makin stunned defending champion James Willstrop to reach the final, where he will take on New Zealand’s Paul Coll after his win over Saurav Ghosal.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL

Beach Volleyball - Commonwealth Games: Day 5

Australia’s defending women’s champions Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho de Solar made it two wins from two with a routine 2-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago pair Suraya Chase and Phylecia Armstrong.

Vanuatu are also two from two after Miller Pata and Sherysyn Toko beat Hannah U’una and Rose Gwali of the Solomon Islands 2-0.

England maintained their own perfect start as Daisy Mumby and Jessica Grimson secured a 2-0 win over Scotland’s Melissa Coutts and Lynne Beattie, while Cyprus got the better of Sri Lanka.

In the men’s competition, Canada beat St Kitts and Nevis 2-0 and The Gambia beat Sri Lanka 2-1.

BOXING

Boxing - Commonwealth Games: Day 5

Scotland’s Tyler Jolly earned a knockout win over Jamaica’s Daniel Hylton to reach the welterweight quarter-finals.

Wales’ Ioan Croft joins him, alongside Lewis Zakeyi Mbewe of Malawi and Neville Warupi of Papua New Guinea.

Cricket - Commonwealth Games: Day 5

England and New Zealand both secured their places in the semi-finals with victories over South Africa and Sri Lanka respectively.

Alice Capsey hit 50 off 37 balls and some late-order hitting from Katherine Brunt propelled England to a total of 167 for five – the highest score of the tournament so far.

Anneke Bosch and Tazmin Brits gave the Proteas a solid base with an opening stand of 64 but they were always behind the run-rate and eventually finished 26 runs short on 141 for four.

Hayley Jensen claimed three for five from four overs as New Zealand claimed a 45-run win over Sri Lanka.

NETBALL

Netball - Commonwealth Games: Day 5

Gold Coast runners-up Australia claimed a 79-33 Pool A victory over Wales in the opening match of the day at the NEC to keep up their perfect record with a fourth win.

Jamaica kept pace with the leaders though, racking up their fourth victory with a 78-34 win over Scotland.

In Pool B, England kept up their own perfect record with a 59-35 win over Uganda, with New Zealand also four from four after beating Trinidad and Tobago 80-24.
