UCU Lady Canons Secure 69-64 Win Against Magic Stormers

The UCU Lady Canons edged out the Magic Stormers Basketball Club with a final score of 69-64 in a closely contested NBL Women’s match.

The game, held at the MTN Arena, saw the Lady Canons displaying a strong fourth-quarter performance to secure their win.

The Lady Canons started strong, leading 30-15 by the end of the first quarter. Despite a strong comeback by the Magic Stormers in the second and third quarters, UCU managed to hold their lead.

The fourth quarter saw UCU outscore the Magic Stomers 18-16, sealing their victory.

Key performers for the Lady Canons included Sylivia Nantongo, who contributed 8 points and 11 rebounds, and Hajara Najjuko, who added 10 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist.

On the Magic Stormers’ side, Charity Lamaro scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, while Namugala Jesca managed 2 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist.

UCU dominated the boards, pulling down 52 rebounds compared to Magic Stomers’ 47, and also led in assists with 20 to Magic Stomers’ 13. Turnovers were high on both sides, with UCU committing 35 and Magic Stomers 33.

The match featured notable defensive plays, with UCU recording 5 blocks and 19 steals, while Magic Stomers had 3 blocks and 18 steals.

The Lady Canons also dominated in points in the paint, scoring 42 to Magic Stomers’ 36.

The UCU Lady Canons now finish the regular season with 38 points from 21 games. The Magic Stomers have 29 points with 2 games of the regular season to play.

Action in the National Basketball League returns on Friday with KCCA Leopards taking on KIU Rangers.
