The Cricket Cranes are jetting off to Sri Lanka for a 14-day training camp from the 10th to the 23rd, getting ready for the World Cup in the West Indies this June. Our boys are in Group C with the team from West Indies, Afghanistan, New Zealand, and PNG. Get ready for some serious cricket action.
We’re going to playing seven T20 matches against some teams in the vibrant city of Galle – it’s going to be epic. Juma Miyagi is back in action after going through a back injury since April last year. Alpesh Ramjani and Bilal Hassun, who missed the India tour, are also back in the game. Fred Achellam, Ronald Lutaaya, and Innocent Mwebaze are keeping their spots after crushing it in India.
Jackson Ogwang, our Cricket Cranes Interim Head Coach, spoke to us about the plan: we’re diving into some intense matches against tough opponents, working on our skills, and experimenting with killer combinations. Sri Lanka, just like India, is giving our batsmen a taste of facing fast and swing bowlers. We’re gearing up to face even quicker pacers – it’s going to be a great experience for the team.
Meet the team: Roger Mukasa, Simon Ssesazi, Robinson Obuya, Fred Achellam, Dinesh Nakrani, Frank Nsubuga, Brian Masaba (Captain), Alpesh Ramjani, Kenneth Waiswa, Ronald Lutaaya, Kakuru Cyrus, Henry Ssenyondo, Bilal Hassun, Juma Miyagi, and Innocent Mwebaze. Our dream team also includes Jackson Ogwang (Head Coach), Tusiime Steve (Team Analyst), Shamim Nassali (Physiotherapist), Emmanuenalla Aroma (S&C Coach), and Charles Waiswa (Team Manager).
Our T20 journey kicked off with a showdown against the Sri Lanka Development Side. They won the toss, chose to bowl first. Dinesh Nakrani (29) and Brian Masaba (21) held it down with the bat, but we got bundled out for 87 in 20 overs. No worries, though – in the run chase, Dinesh Nakrani (3/19) stole the show, backed up by Henry Ssenyondo (1/15) and Alpesh Ramjani (1/15). Juma Miyagi, making a comeback since July last year, threw down three overs, giving away 27 runs – not bad for a comeback!
