In a thrilling encounter in Group A of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier, Sri Lanka delivered a commanding performance to secure a convincing victory over Uganda.
The match witnessed a standout performance from Vishmi Gunaratne, whose exceptional batting display powered Sri Lanka to a formidable total of 154/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Partnering with Hasini Perera, Gunaratne crafted a superb unbeaten knock of 73 runs off 64 balls, her career-best in T20Is.
Despite a solid start by Uganda, Sri Lanka’s bowling attack quickly took control of the game, reducing Uganda to 22/4 within the Powerplay. Inoka Ranaweera and Shashini Gimhani were pivotal in dismantling Uganda’s batting lineup, with Ranaweera striking twice in consecutive deliveries.
Although Prosscovia Alako showed resilience with a valiant knock of 36 runs, Uganda struggled to build partnerships and were eventually bowled out for 87 runs. Kavisha Dilhari’s decisive bowling in the final over sealed the victory for Sri Lanka.
With this impressive 67-run win, Sri Lanka maintains their unbeaten streak in the tournament, having secured three consecutive victories in Group A. They now qualify for the semi-finals with the finalists making it to the world cup.
