In a gripping final match held at St. Mary’s Girls Secondary School in Madera, Soroti, Light SS secured their maiden Girls Schools Cricket Week championship by defeating Olila High School in a nail-biting contest. The match, which took place on Sunday, May 12th, witnessed a fierce battle between the two teams, culminating in a victory for Light SS by a slender margin of 3 runs.
Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Olila High School aimed to gain an early advantage. However, Light SS displayed remarkable resilience as they set a modest target of 76 runs for their opponents to chase.
Despite a valiant effort from Olila High School, they fell short of the target by 3 runs, managing to score 73 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Anyait Lona of Olila High School emerged as the top scorer of the match, contributing 38 runs from 40 balls, including 2 fours and 2 sixes.
Prior to their triumph in the final, Light SS demonstrated their prowess throughout the tournament, topping Group B. In a tense semifinal encounter, they secured a narrow 1-wicket victory over Jinja SS.
On the other hand, Olila High School, who topped Group A, advanced to the final with ease after securing a commanding 9-wicket win over Sacred Heart SS in the semifinals.
The victory marks a historic moment for Light SS, as they clinch their first-ever Girls Schools Cricket Week title and establishing themselves as a formidable force in girls’ cricket.
