2024 Boys Schools Cricket Tournament to be Held in Jinja

Uganda Cricket Association has announced that the 2024 edition of the annual Boys Schools Cricket Tournament will take place from August 24th to 31st in Jinja. This marks the third consecutive year Jinja will host the tournament, which gathers the best cricket-playing secondary schools from six regions across Uganda.

The tournament will begin with a qualification round featuring 53 boys’ schools from six sports hubs. Eighteen schools will then compete for the title in the finals. Jinja SSS, the defending champions, will once again host the event.

Organized by East Enders Sports Hub and administered by the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA), the tournament will be played at six venues in Jinja, including Jinja SSS (Main Oval), Jinja College, Busoga College Mwiri, Kakira SS, and Kiira PS.

“We are thrilled to host the Annual Boys Schools Tournament this year. This edition comes at a perfect time when young cricketers in Uganda have been inspired by the senior men’s team at the T20 World Cup in the West Indies,” said Isaac Imaka, Founder of East Enders.

“This gives them a chance to showcase their talent with the hope of growing into national assets that will represent Uganda at bigger tournaments. It also provides Jinja an opportunity to market itself as a sports tourism destination. We look forward to witnessing remarkable performances and unforgettable moments during the tournament,” he added.

Davis Turinawe, UCA Development Manager, added, “A big thanks to UCA for increasing the number of participating schools. This will significantly enhance our talent pool for representative teams and future players for Uganda. We anticipate an exciting brand of cricket from various schools and look forward to a thrilling tournament.”
