The Baby Victoria Pearls, Uganda’s under-19 women’s cricket team, have touched down in Kigali, Rwanda, ready to compete in the 2024 ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup Qualifier Africa.
The team, which departed Kampala on the morning of September 20, is aiming to secure the sole African spot at the U19 T20 World Cup in Malaysia next year.
The eight-team tournament, which will run from September 20th to 30th, will see the Baby Victoria Pearls face off against some of the continent’s top young cricket talent.
The team is determined to improve on their fourth-place finish at the 2022 qualifiers in Botswana.
As the Baby Victoria Pearls settle into their surroundings in Kigali, they will be focused on preparing for their opening match against Namibia on September 22nd.
The team’s journey to the World Cup will also see them face Kenya and hosts Rwanda in the group stage.
The Baby Victoria Pearls need to finish in the top two from the group stage to advance to the semi-finals.
