Ugandan Cricketer Achwao Selected for ICC Coaching Mentorship

Ugandan cricketer Sandra Achwao has been selected to participate in the ICC Future Leaders Program, a mentorship initiative designed to empower women in cricket coaching.

Achwao, a member of Soroti Cricket Club and a coach for the Light SS cricket team, joins a group of aspiring leaders from across Africa.

The program, facilitated by Devarain Dinesha from South Africa, is taking place in Kigali until September 28.

It specifically targets women who are currently involved in coaching or will be active in the field for at least two years, including potential head coaches.

The first session of the program included coaches from the ongoing U19 Africa Women’s World Cup Qualifiers, providing a valuable opportunity for participants to learn from and network with peers.

The ICC says this program aims to promote sustainable and impactful participation of women in cricket coaching at the highest level through this initiative.

By investing in the development of female coaches, the ICC hopes to create a more inclusive and equitable environment for women in cricket.

Sandra Achwao, a right-handed all-rounder, has played a significant role in Ugandan cricket.

She has represented the Soroti City women’s cricket club and was part of the Baby Victoria Pearls’ team in the U19 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers in Botswana in 2022.
