Uganda is set to welcome the ITF Men’s World Tennis Tour from October 7 to 20 at the Kampala Club, marking the return of top-level tennis to the country after a five-year hiatus.
Over 30 male players from around the globe will compete in the M25 and M15 categories, with prize money of up to $25,000 on the line.
The qualifiers begin on October 6, with the main draw kicking off on October 8. The last time Uganda hosted the tour was in May 2019 at the Lugogo Tennis Complex.
The ITF Men’s World Tennis Tour serves as an entry-level platform for professional players and a pathway to higher-ranked ATP Challenger events and Grand Slam tournaments.
Results from this tournament contribute to ATP rankings, helping young talent gain international exposure.
Uganda’s trio of Frank Tayebwa, Simon Ayella, and Trevor Kazibwe, all of whom recently represented the country in the Davis Cup will compete in the event.
Zimbabwe’s Benjamin Lock, the top seed in the M25 category, will also feature as a strong contender.
Sponsors for the tournament include JIBU Water, Fairway Hotel, Explorers’ Hub Hotel, and Choate Boutique Hotel and Restaurant.
This is a great opportunity for tennis fans in Uganda to see up-and-coming international stars in action as the tournament promises two weeks of thrilling competition.
