Medvedev Eyes Historic Hardcourt Milestone at Indian Wells

Daniil Medvedev, former world No. 1, is chasing history at the Indian Wells Masters, aiming to join the elite ranks of tennis legends Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

Despite an early-season slump that saw him record an 8-5 win-loss tally, including a shock second-round exit at the Australian Open, Medvedev made an emphatic start at Tennis Paradise with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 victory over China’s Yunchaokete Bu.

Now, the 28-year-old Russian has a shot at completing an extraordinary hardcourt milestone. Indian Wells remains the only ATP Masters 1000 title missing from his hardcourt trophy collection.

A triumph here would place him alongside Federer and Djokovic as the only players to dominate across all hardcourt Masters events.

Medvedev, who has already claimed hardcourt Masters titles in Cincinnati, Shanghai, Paris-Bercy, Toronto, and Miami, is no stranger to consistency.

Having reached the Indian Wells final in both 2023 and 2024, he boasts an impressive 71% win rate at the tournament.

Federer and Djokovic each claimed five titles at this iconic desert venue during their careers, solidifying their legacies.

While Medvedev may still trail them in overall Masters titles, his success at hardcourt events has been remarkable, further cementing his place among the greats.

The Indian Wells crowd now watches as Medvedev, a two-time finalist at the event, strives to etch his name into the annals of tennis history by clinching the title that has so far eluded him.
