Formula 1 racing is set to witness a new chapter as New Zealand’s Liam Lawson embarks on his full-time Red Bull Racing journey.
Stepping into the spotlight alongside four-time World Champion Max Verstappen, Lawson replaces Sergio Perez, marking his graduation from Red Bull’s sister team, Racing Bulls.
The 23-year-old racer, who caught attention during 11 mid-season appearances in 2023 and 2024, expressed his excitement about this milestone.
“It’s obviously a big opportunity for me, and one that I’m very excited for,” said Lawson. During the recent pre-season testing in Bahrain, he demonstrated confidence in Red Bull’s RB21 car, describing himself as being in a “positive place.”
Lawson’s promotion comes with high expectations, given the challenges faced by previous junior drivers who partnered Verstappen.
However, his experiences as a test and reserve driver have built strong team relationships, which he sees as an advantage heading into the 2025 season.
Reflecting on his upcoming debut at the season opener in Melbourne, Lawson acknowledged the learning curve ahead for certain tracks but declared, “In F1, I don’t feel like a rookie.”
As one of six rookies on the grid, Lawson’s entry promises to bring fresh energy to Formula 1. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how he fares in the fiercely competitive Red Bull Racing environment, alongside the reigning champion.
