The 2025 National Basketball League (NBL) season is set to tip off this Friday, March 21st, with an exciting doubleheader.
Defending champions, the City Oilers, and reigning women’s champions, the JKL Lady Dolphins, will headline the opening night.
The JKL Lady Dolphins will face the JT Lady Jaguars at 7:00 PM, followed by a clash between the City Oilers and the Nam Blazers at 9:00 PM.
This marks the highly anticipated return of top-flight basketball to Uganda.
Ahead of the new season, Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) Vice President Hudson Ssegamwenge provided key updates regarding the league’s structure and partnerships.
He confirmed that FUBA does not receive any share of gate collections from NBL games, emphasizing the federation’s financial independence from match-day revenues.
“FUBA does not receive a single penny from gate collections of NBL games,” he stated.
He also announced that Castle Lite Uganda is no longer a partner of the National Basketball League.
“CastleLiteUg is no longer a partner of NBL Fuba,” he said.
Ssegamwenge highlighted that the league’s fixture formula has been designed to enhance fan engagement by bringing basketball closer to communities.
“The 2025 NBL fixture formula is designed to bring basketball closer to the community,” he noted.
According to Ssegamwenge, the new season is projected to conclude by September.
“With the 2025 NBL season tipping off this Friday, Fuba Vice President Hudson Ssegamwenge projects it will conclude by September,” he stated.
