McLaren’s Oscar Piastri clinched victory at the Chinese Grand Prix, marking his third Formula 1 win.
His teammate, Lando Norris, secured a commendable second place, despite late-race brake issues, delivering a spectacular 1-2 finish for the British team. Mercedes’ George Russell rounded out the podium in third.
The race, held at the Shanghai International Circuit, was packed with drama and strategic battles. Piastri, starting from pole position, managed to maintain his lead throughout, showcasing exceptional pace and tire management.
“It’s been an incredible weekend from start to finish,” Piastri said, expressing his delight at the team’s performance.
Norris, who initially challenged for the lead, faced a tense finale due to a brake problem. “It’s scary, it is like my worst nightmare, brakes failing,” Norris admitted, revealing he lost several seconds per lap towards the end. Despite this, he managed to hold off Russell to secure second.
Russell, who finished third, praised his team’s strategy and his own performance. “It’s a great result to finish in P3,” he said, highlighting the strategic one-stop that proved crucial for his podium finish.
Many teams, including Mercedes, opted for a one-stop strategy, which proved to be more effective than anticipated.
Meanwhile, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, despite a challenging start, managed to secure fourth place, overtaking Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
