Sergio Perez Eyes a Return to the F1 Grid After Red Bull Departure

Veteran Formula 1 driver Sergio Perez has revealed that he is in discussions with several teams about a potential comeback next season.

The 35-year-old Mexican stepped away from Red Bull Racing at the end of 2024, following a challenging campaign that saw him fail to win a single race and achieve only four podium finishes—his lowest tally since joining the team in 2021.

Perez, who parted ways with Red Bull just months after signing a two-year contract extension, described the season as “terrible.”

Reflecting on his struggles, he attributed them in part to difficulties with the RB20 car, which he said prevented him from showcasing his true capabilities as a driver.

“Especially last year, I didn’t get to show what I’m able to do as a driver. Now, people realise how difficult the car is to drive,” Perez explained.

Despite the setback, the former Sauber and McLaren driver remains optimistic about a return, indicating that he has been approached by multiple teams since his departure.

“I’ve been approached by a few teams since Abu Dhabi,” he shared. “Once I know all my options, I will make a decision. I’m only coming back if the project makes sense and it’s something I can enjoy.”

Perez’s exit paved the way for Liam Lawson to join Red Bull, though Lawson was replaced by Yuki Tsunoda after struggling with the RB21 car early in the season.

Having previously finished second in the drivers’ championship in 2023 behind teammate Max Verstappen, Perez still believes he has much to offer the sport. His potential return is eagerly anticipated as Formula 1 fans speculate on which team might provide him with the opportunity to reignite his career.
