Uganda bounced back from two consecutive losses to claim a crucial five-wicket victory over Sierra Leone in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Africa Qualifier at UNILAG Cricket Pitch in Lagos, Nigeria.
The win keeps the Baby Cricket Cranes’ World Cup hopes alive as they prepare for their next challenge against defending champions Namibia.
Sierra Leone, batting first, struggled against Uganda’s disciplined bowling attack and were bowled out for 119 runs in 47.4 overs.
George Sesay provided resistance with 38 runs off 83 balls, but wickets fell at regular intervals, preventing any significant partnerships.
Uganda’s bowlers dominated, with Balidawa Ali leading the attack with three wickets, while Abdulaziz Tandia and Musa Majid Ramathan chipped in with two wickets each.
A sharp fielding display from Nyiiro Jonathan and Conrad Lubwama also contributed to Sierra Leone’s struggles.
In response, Uganda chased the target in 43 overs, finishing at 120/5.
Devansh Patel top-scored with 25 runs, while captain Gerald Olipa added a steady 20 to guide their side home.
The victory comes as a major boost for the Baby Cricket Cranes, who now shift focus to their upcoming clash against Namibia to be played today April 2 at UNILAG Cricket Pitch.
With only one spot available for the 2026 U19 Cricket World Cup, Uganda will face an uphill battle to stay in contention.
