Carlos Alcaraz demonstrated his resilience and brilliance on the clay courts of Monte Carlo, rallying from a set down to defeat Lorenzo Musetti 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 and claim his first Monte Carlo Masters title.
The victory marked the 21-year-old Spaniard’s sixth ATP Masters 1000 crown and his 18th career title overall.
In a match that began as a closely contested battle, Musetti showed his precision and tactical acumen in the opening set, capitalizing on Alcaraz’s erratic forehand to take a surprising early lead.
The Italian’s outrageous drop-shot winner from behind the baseline was one of the standout moments as he edged the first set 6-3.
However, Alcaraz quickly found his footing in the second set, roaring “vamos” as he broke Musetti’s serve with increased energy and conviction. The turning point came as the four-time Grand Slam champion saved five break points in a grueling eight-minute service game, closing out the set and forcing a decider.
The final set was one-sided as Musetti struggled with a right thigh injury, limiting his mobility and reducing his ability to compete. Alcaraz capitalized, breezing through the set without dropping a game and raising his arms in victory before consoling the injured Italian.
Reflecting on the win, Alcaraz expressed pride in overcoming recent challenges. “It’s been a really difficult week with a lot of difficult situations. Coming here and seeing how the hard work has paid off, I’m really happy,” he said.
