The 2025 National Men’s 50 Over League returned with renewed intensity on Matchday 3, following a weather-disrupted week that saw multiple fixtures abandoned.
This past weekend offered a blend of dramatic finishes, dominant displays, and individual brilliance as Uganda’s premier domestic competition regained momentum.
Only one game was affected by weather this time, with Saturday’s Division Two clash between Nile and Entale at Entebbe Cricket Oval abandoned due to persistent rain.
Both sides shared the points, a setback for Nile who remain in search of their first win, while Entale were denied an opportunity to showcase their young talent.
On Sunday, the spotlight shifted to Division One, where Aboojo continued their commanding start with a 72-run victory over Rounders at Lugogo Cricket Oval. Key contributions from Brian Asaba (38), Fortunate Alijuna (31), and Mathew Musinguzi (39) propelled Aboojo to 198 in 44.1 overs. Rounders struggled in response, crumbling to 126 all out despite a spirited four-wicket haul from Tembo Zubair. Musinguzi, who also claimed five wickets, was named Player of the Match for his all-round display.
At Entebbe Cricket Oval, defending champions Kutchi Tigers secured their first win in a nail-biting, low-scoring affair against Avengers. After being dismissed for just 66—largely due to Pius Oloka’s 6/18 and Yashvi Joshi’s 4/25—the Tigers bounced back through a match-winning spell by Ghanshyam Ashani. His 5/14 derailed the Avengers, who fell short by 10 runs, managing only 56 in reply.
Elsewhere, Tornado Bees delivered a resounding nine-wicket win over Wanderers at Serenity Oval in Kamengo. Abdul Aziz Tandia’s 3/9 helped restrict Wanderers to 122 before Gerald Olipa (50 not out) and Anas Baig (42) made light work of the chase, reaching the target in just 16.3 overs. Olipa took home the Player of the Match award.
In Jinja, Ceylon Lions bounced back with a 38-run win over JACC. Charles Musemeza’s composed 53 was the backbone of their total of 141. The Lions’ bowling unit, led by Juma Miyaji (2/13) and veteran Frank Nsubuga (3 wickets), held firm to bowl out JACC for 103.
Division Two action also resumed on Sunday, with Group B leaders GM Sugar extending their winning run by beating Aziz Damani Ismaili by four wickets at GM Sugar Oval in Njeru. Hevin Kanubhai Patel’s 4/16 restricted Ismaili to 101, and his 12* helped finish the chase in 26.3 overs, earning him Player of the Match honors.
