Oscar Piastri’s manager, Mark Webber, has hailed the McLaren driver’s remarkable performance after his dominant lights-to-flag victory at the Bahrain Grand Prix. Piastri, 24, became the first driver this season to secure multiple wins, having also triumphed in China earlier in the campaign.
With his latest success, the Australian now sits just three points behind McLaren teammate Lando Norris in the Drivers’ Championship.
Speaking on the F1 Nation podcast, Webber, himself a nine-time F1 race winner, lauded Piastri’s maturity and ability to convert opportunities early in his career.
“Four wins now, 13 podiums—so early in his career, it’s a huge feather in his cap,” said Webber. “He’s converted two poles straight away, which is a testament to how well he’s delivering.”
Webber highlighted that Piastri’s victories in challenging circuits like Shanghai and Bahrain demonstrate the driver’s adaptability.
He noted that Piastri’s smooth weekend in Bahrain reflected not only his skill but also his ability to handle pressure—a quality crucial for the intense competition in Formula 1.
Asked about Piastri’s improvements in qualifying, Webber emphasized the fierce competition he faces from rivals such as Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and Lewis Hamilton.
“There’s serious artillery out there over one lap, and it’s clear Oscar is learning quickly how to execute these cars and tyres to perfection,” Webber explained. “As I always say to him, you’ll have the most experience the day you retire, so keep learning.”
