Emma Raducanu’s return ended in a second-round defeat at the Madrid Open, losing 6-4 2-6 6-2 to Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk.
Despite a second-set fightback, the British number two couldn’t overcome the 24th seed.
It was a tough day for British women as Katie Boulter fell 6-1 6-2 to Italian sixth seed Jasmine Paolini, who dominated with efficient break point conversion.
Sonay Kartal also exited, losing 6-3 6-1 to Ukraine’s 17th seed Elina Svitolina.
These losses mean no British female players remain in the Madrid Open singles draw.
