Oringa Retains Title at Uganda Tennis Association’s April Monthly Tournament

David Oringa successfully defended his title at the Uganda Tennis Association’s (UTA) April Men’s Monthly Ranking Tournament, held from April 22 to 27 at the Lugogo Tennis Complex.

The 31-year-old defeated rising star Troy Adrian Zziwa in straight sets—6-1, 6-4—in a final that capped off a week of intense action.

The tournament featured nine players, a smaller field than usual due to injuries to top-seeded Mawa Saidi and former April finalist Frank Tayebwa. Their absence created an opening for younger players to step into the spotlight.

Zziwa seized the opportunity with an impressive run to the final, highlighted by a dominant 6-1, 6-0 semi-final victory over veteran Ronald Nasawali.

However, the young contender was unable to unseat Oringa, who drew on his Davis Cup experience and tactical discipline to secure the win.

Throughout the tournament, Oringa demonstrated his consistency and superior match management, dropping only a handful of games across all rounds.

His triumph not only reinforced his position as Uganda’s top-ranked male player but also added valuable points to his World Tennis Number (WTN) standing.

For his efforts, Oringa received a UGX 400,000 cash prize from the Uganda Tennis Association.
