Coco Gauff delivered a dominant semifinal performance at the Madrid Open, thrashing defending champion Iga Swiatek 6-1, 6-1.
The American secured her first clay-court victory over the Polish world No. 2 in just 64 minutes.
Swiatek, who had shown vulnerability in earlier rounds, couldn’t break Gauff’s serve and dropped her own five times.
Gauff, who had previously beaten Swiatek twice on hard courts, expressed confidence on clay, stating, “clay is one of my better surfaces too.”
This loss leaves Swiatek with limited time before her French Open title defense, while Gauff advances to the Madrid final.
