Former French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin has apologized to Liverpool fans for wrongly blaming them for the chaotic scenes at the 2022 Champions League final in Paris.
Now Justice Minister, Darmanin admitted security was inadequate and his initial accusations against English fans were a “mistake.”
Following the final, marred by crowd congestion and police use of tear gas, Darmanin blamed “English fans” and fake tickets.
However, he now retracts this, calling the night his “biggest failure” and stating the real problem was “delinquents robbing fans.”
He apologized to Liverpool fans for his “preconceived ideas.”
This comes after UEFA recently failed to dismiss lawsuits from Liverpool fans injured in the chaos.
