Constitutional Amendments Top Agenda as URU Convenes Special Meeting

The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) has called a Special General Meeting (SGM) for Sunday, June 1, 2025, to review and potentially amend its constitution.

The meeting is set to begin at 9:00 AM at the Copper Chimney Restaurant, NCS Hall in Kampala.

The SGM has been convened in line with Article 9.4 of the Uganda Rugby Constitution and follows a resolution passed by members during the Annual General Assembly on May 11, 2025.

According to the agenda released by URU, the meeting will include the presentation, discussion, and possible adoption of proposed constitutional amendments that could influence the future governance structure of rugby in Uganda.

The schedule includes breakfast and arrivals at 9:00 AM, followed by an opening prayer and roll call of delegates at 10:00 AM. URU President’s communication is slated for 10:05 AM, after which the proposals for constitutional review will be formally presented at 10:10 AM.

Discussions are set to start at 11:10 AM, and a vote on the adoption of the proposals is scheduled for 12:00 PM. The meeting is expected to conclude by 1:00 PM.

In a formal notice issued by URU Hon. Secretary Peter Odong, all member clubs have been advised that each club may send two representative delegates.

However, for facilities, only one representative delegate will be permitted. Member clubs have until Monday, May 26, 2025, to confirm the names, titles, and contact details of their delegates.

With time running out to comply with the New Sports Regulations, the proposed constitutional review is regarded as a key milestone for the union, with potential long-term implications for the administration and development of rugby across the country. URU has encouraged full participation from its stakeholders in this critical process.
