Ugandan International Lwanga Exits Rwanda’s APR

Ugandan international and midfielder Taddeo Lwanga has confirmed his departure from Rwanda Premier League powerhouse and champions APR FC.

In an emotional farewell to APR, the 31-year-old indicated that it wasn’t the easiest of decisions; “writing this isn’t easy, but as footballers, we all understand that this day eventually comes.”

“I am deeply grateful for your unwavering support during my time at APR FC. I wish the club nothing but success in the future,” the colossus midfielder added.

Lwanga has thus become a free agent, and is subsequently available on the market. The player and APR decided against renewing after the two failed to reach an agreement on a deal.

While he indicated that “I’ll be announcing my next move in the due course,” reports have pointed at a return to Uganda Premier League champions, should he fail to secure another move outside Uganda.

During his first spell at Vipers, the 31-year-old captained the team to the League championship in the 2017/18 season. Lwanga has also previously played at Tanzania’s Simba SC, Egypt’s Tanta and Djibouti’s Atar/Solar 7.

Meanwhile, Lwanga is a full Ugandan international, who also played an astounding role in helping Uganda return to Africa Cup of Nations for the 2025 edition after missing out in 2021 and 2023.

He was a key figure in the team that reached the Round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 in Egypt.
