Kampala Queens stand on the verge of history as they gear up for a two-legged FUFA Women’s Cup semifinal against the Lady Doves.
The Queens of Soccer booked their place in the last four with a gritty 1-0 win over St. Noa Girls, marking the club’s first-ever appearance at this stage of the competition.
The semifinal kicks off in Kampala, with the opening leg set for Saturday at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo. The return fixture follows on Wednesday at Katusabe Grounds in Masindi, where the Lady Doves will host the decisive clash.
Assistant Coach Shafic Mutebi expressed his excitement ahead of the tie, praising the team’s focus and determination:
“We have been in good moods all week seeing that we are going to play the semifinals for the first time. We hope to play a better game than our opponent on Saturday. The team is ready to fight and make history by reaching the finals.”
The technical bench has a full-strength squad to choose from, with star forward Catherine Nagadya returning after suspension. She missed the quarterfinal due to a red card in the Round of 16 against She Kasese, but her comeback adds crucial firepower to the Queens’ attack.
Despite the magnitude of the occasion, the players remain calm. Midfielder Sharon Kaidu stressed composure as the key to success:
“As players, we don’t have any pressure. I advise my fellow players to be calm and play to the best of their abilities to see that we reach the finals.”
With silverware within reach, Kampala Queens will aim to capitalize on home advantage at Lugogo before braving the challenge in Masindi to secure their maiden FUFA Women’s Cup final berth.
