Kampala University’s Woodball Stars are proudly flying Uganda’s flag at the 5th Taifa International Woodball Open Championship, currently underway in Nairobi from 27th to 30th June 2025.
The 12-player squad, which includes six men and six women, is taking part in both stroke and fairway events as per the competition rules. This is Kampala University’s maiden appearance at the continental tournament, marking a new milestone in their fast-rising journey in the sport.
Led by veteran player-coach Lillian Zawedde and men’s captain Mathias Wahala, the team is confident of delivering solid performances and making a mark on the regional stage. Women’s captain Aisha Nakanjako also brings leadership experience to a team that blends youth with seasoned talent.
Formed in December 2023, Kampala University Woodball Stars made an instant impact on the scene. In 2024, they stunned the region by winning gold at the Eastern Africa University Games hosted at Maseno University in Kenya.
Now in Nairobi, the team is hoping to build on that success with strong showings across the four-day tournament. Their participation has been made possible by financial backing from Kampala University management, a gesture the players and coaches say has boosted morale and national pride.
