Williams driver Carlos Sainz is resting at his hotel after being struck by illness, forcing him to cancel his media duties ahead of the 2025 São Paulo Grand Prix weekend.
The news immediately sparks concern given that the Spanish driver had to miss the 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix after suffering from appendicitis.
Williams is hopeful Sainz will recover in time for the on-track action, which begins with a Sprint event this weekend.
A team spokesperson confirmed: “Unfortunately, Carlos is unwell and will not be coming to the track today…”
Should Sainz be unable to compete, it would recall the stunning 2024 debut of reserve driver Oliver Bearman, who scored a seventh-place finish in Saudi Arabia after replacing an unwell Sainz.
