Eighteen Senegalese supporters jailed after January’s Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat insist they were victims of crowd surges and hostility, not hooliganism.
The fans, sentenced to three–12 months in February, faced prosecutors seeking harsher terms in Monday’s appeal hearing.
Defence lawyers argued the wrong people were charged and requested video evidence, which the court has yet to admit.
The case follows CAF’s reversal of Senegal’s 1-0 win, awarding the trophy to Morocco. Senegal’s federation has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
