The Mwiri League Season 6 finale is set to bring football, entertainment and alumni fellowship to Jinja City on Saturday, June 20, with organisers promising the biggest edition of the event yet.
Powered by Guinness, the season-ending extravaganza will take place at the Ruck Yard and will see Busoga College Mwiri alumni, football enthusiasts and supporters gather to celebrate another successful chapter of the popular alumni football competition.
Speaking during the official launch at Inspire Café in Kampala on Tuesday, Mwiri League chairman Shadrack Olinga said preparations had been completed and organisers were ready to deliver a memorable occasion.
“Everything is set and we are good to go. We have worked tirelessly with our partners and organising team to ensure a memorable finale. I want to invite all Busoga College Mwiri alumni, football lovers, and supporters of the Mwiri League to come and be part of this special occasion as we celebrate another successful season,” Olinga said.
This year’s finale will introduce a new competitive format. Rather than the traditional closing programme, all 16 participating teams will take part in two knockout competitions. The top eight sides on the final standings will compete for the Shield title, while the remaining eight teams will battle for the Plate trophy.
The organisers believe the revised structure will create more excitement and ensure every team remains involved until the final day of the season.
Guinness, one of the league’s long-standing partners, will once again play a prominent role in the celebrations. The brand has supported the competition’s growth and is expected to add its trademark matchday atmosphere to the event.
Speaking on behalf of Guinness, a company representative congratulated the league on completing another successful campaign and highlighted the impact the competition has had in strengthening ties among former students.
“First, we would like to congratulate the Mwiri League for successfully completing Season 6. Guinness is proud to have walked this journey with them. The league has created a unique platform that promotes friendship, networking, healthy competition, and community among alumni.
“For the season finale, we are set to elevate the experience with the bold Guinness spirit that brings excitement, connection, and great vibes to every moment. We shall have our products available at affordable prices to ensure everyone enjoys a memorable experience throughout the day,” she added.
Away from the football pitch, the retro-themed finale will feature a packed entertainment programme. Celebrated singer Lillian Mbabazi will headline the live performances alongside the Sundowners Band, while several leading DJs from Kampala and Jinja are also expected to keep revellers entertained throughout the day.
The event will also carry a community impact component. Before the football action begins, different cohorts of Busoga College Mwiri alumni will visit Jinja Regional Referral Hospital to donate a medicine storage machine aimed at improving healthcare service delivery at the facility.
