Ivory Coast striker Elye Wahi has been denied entry to Canada ahead of Saturday’s World Cup match against Germany.
The 23-year-old Nice forward was arrested last month in France over alleged spot-fixing, accused of deliberately earning a yellow card against Metz in May. French prosecutors confirmed an investigation into organised fraud and sports corruption, though Wahi was released after questioning.
The Ivorian federation said it had not been formally notified of proceedings but confirmed Wahi could not secure travel authorisation. He will remain in the US while the team plays in Toronto before facing Curacao in Philadelphia.
Wahi becomes the second player barred from Canada during the tournament, following Ghana’s Thomas Partey.
